Tanto with kinzogan-mei of Muramasa
Listing a long koto tanto with beautiful workmanship. The blade has a very well done togari gonome hamon in much the style of Muromachi Mino, and is of a type seen in Mino Kanefusa. The jitetsu is a flawless itame. The blade is almost a full shaku in length, with a nagasa of 9 sun 7 bu (29.4cm). The nakago is in the tanago-bara shape and there is a well executed kinzogan-mei of Muramasa. The blade also has a sayagaki by Dr. Homma Junji (Kunzan) which also attributes the sword to Muramasa. In addition to the sayagaki, the blade comes with an old NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho kanteisho supporting the Muramasa attribution. As these old papers are deprecated, it is best to submit such swords to the NBTHK again to confirm or re-evaluate at a current shinsa. Additional photos of this blade are below.
