This is a healthy gendaito by the well known Showa era smith Kato Jumyo. Jumyo was born on July 10th, 1893 and passed away August 29th, 1956. He was the teacher to Kato Kanefusa. His real name was Zennosuke Kato and he lived in Seki-shi-zaka Shitamachi. His Buddhism name is Tenshin-Jumyo-Ishi. This sword is in very good condition with just light staining and a few tiny chips which I photographed here. It should present no issues when restored. The blade is thick and wide with a healthy ubu-ba. It is mounted in kai-gunto koshirae with a lacquered saya.
