Translation of Tanobe-sensei’s Sayagaki: Yamato koku Shikkake Norinaga O-suriage mumei nari
The blade has clear characteristic of the above smith and school. The performance and condition is
outstanding. It is very valuable wakizashi.
The blade was polished.
Habaki: Gold single foiled habaki
Blade length : 54.39 cm or 21.41 inches.
Sori : 1.2 cm or 0.47 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.50 cm or 0.98 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.77 cm or 0.69 inches.
Kasane : 0.56 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho period.
Shape : It is O-suriage mumei long size wakizashi.
It is quite deep average length nice shape katana.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with jinie attached.
There is chieki works seen. It is clear and moist jigane.
Hamon : Nie structure, suguha with gunome mixed.
There are active sunagashi, yo, kinsuji works. Boushi is hakikake brush up style.
Special feature : This wakizashi was made by Yamato koku Shikkake Norinaga.
Of all the Yamato schools such as Shikkake, Taima, Hosho, Tegai, Senjyuin and others,
Shikkake school seems to have more gunome midare pieces.
The head of the Shikkake school is Shikkake Norinaga. The jigane had highly graded.
This wakizashi was owned by Sir Suzuki Kaei who was once a director
of NBTHK Sword Museum. This wakizashi has passed the latest NBTHK Jyuyo shinsa.
It is in strickingly good condition. there is no kizu or flaw and kinsuji is acitve. We recommend you this piece.
The Juyo paper is not issued yet as it has passed the most recent shinsa.
