A yari (槍) is a traditional Japanese spear, featuring a straight, double-edged blade mounted on a long wooden shaft. Used extensively by samurai and ashigaru (足軽, foot soldiers), the yari was a highly versatile battlefield weapon for thrusting, slashing, and defensive formations. Unlike the naginata, which had a curved blade, the yari’s straight blade allowed for powerful thrusts and precise strikes.
