Shinogi-zukuri (鎬造り) is the most common and iconic shape of Japanese swords, particularly katana (刀) and tachi (太刀), developed in the Heian period and refined through the Kamakura period. It features a distinct shinogi (鎬), which is the ridge line running along the length of the blade, dividing the flat side (hiraji 平地) from the edge side (hasaki 刃先).
