This is a healthy, ubu example by Omi Daijo Tadahiro. Tadahiro was the nidai (second generation) of the mainline Tadayoshi school and is rated Jojo Saku in Fujishiro. Omi Daijo Tadahiro is credited with refining the trademark konuka hada which became representative of the Hizen Tadayoshi school.
This blade measures 1 shaku 5 sun 7 bu, with a 2.8cm moto-haba and 5.5mm kasane. The jitetsu is a very nice example of konuka hada, with a tight forging beautifully overlaid with thick ji-nie. The hamon is very right with activity and has a thicker than usual habuchi. A very good, representative example of this smith’s work. The kissaki is extended, very healthy and shows no sign of having sustained past repairs. Please note there are several small pinholes on one side. In shirasaya with two piece silver foil habaki. NBTHK Hozon.
